All the whispers of what the Battousai was during the revolution are displayed to the viewer in the opening moments of the film in stark, crismon-bathed ferocity.

Anyone familiar with the bloodier anime series knows how much the medium loves to highlight slashing wounds with overly powerful sprays of blood. Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning embraces this aesthetic completely. And in case you have any concerns that this movie is trading the spectacle and skill the series is known for from its sword fights for gore, fear not. For Kenshin, and every other swordsman of note that crosses his path are just as impressive as ever.

This meant that, because the anime covered story ground much faster than the weekly manga, the show often caught up to the manga , leaving the series without more storytelling ground to cover. Its story is engaging, its direction fast-paced and never dull, and the voice-acting of the Japanese cast is pitch-perfect. And so begin the adventures of Kenshin This is my favorite anime of all time. It has plenty of lessons to teach us about life. The character of Kenshin is very humble and polite and at the same time full of courage and justice. He is dedicated to protect the weak and to uphold the law and fight oppression when necessary.

This is one of the most memorable and most recognizable anime I know, with a cast of great characters and story lines and funny sub-plots, it's everything you'd want to see in an anime. It starts out as Kenshin Himura a wanderer in the Meiji era, ends with a kendo teacher Kaoru Kamiya, and he starts living with her, and eventually she finds out this is no ordinary traveler, this is Battousai, the slasher!

An infamous samurai who killed a lot of people in his past. But finds him to be a sweet gentle man who is kind towards children, who wants to restore peace, and end his days as a slasher. Later more characters appear, Yahiko, and then Sanosuke, then Megumi. A great cast with very dark and dramatic backgrounds filled with tragedies. Every episode seems to give each character some background and info and their dark secrets.

The sword fighting is also cool, and unforgettable. But wait, a few characters portrayed or based on actual people, like Saitou Hajime and Aritomo Yamagata, oh my, I wonder if they were really like that in real life, I mean their personalities as seen here.

Anyways recommended to all anime fans, and to non-anime fans who are not familiar with anime yet, forget Dragon Ball or Pokemon, watch this.

Next, when you come to the first few episodes of the tv series, there is the 'ORO' extreme, or the funny side of Kenshin. I haven't seen all the episodes, but i like the funny Kenshin.

Anyways this is a great show, but it looks like they switched styles halfway through. They need to bring the ORO back! I haven't seen all the episodes, but i like the funny chibi-Kenshin better. A Classic Anime a great adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki's manga and its full of interesting characters and even villains.

It is also set in a very interesting time the Meiji Era over a decade after the overthrow of the Tokugawa Shogunate and the protagonist Kenshin Himura a former assassin who fought for the Isshin Shishi but has sworn never to take a life ever again after a tragedy happened to him.

His vow never to kill means he carries a special kind of sword called a Sakabatou which does not kill. Kaoru Kamiya was sweet but had a mean temper but she was a great character though sadly there have been a few poor imitations of her out there. Yahiko Myojin a young boy of samurai descent at first exploited by Yakuza but saved by Kenshin but trained by Kaoru very smart mouthed lad and looks up to Kenshin. Sanosuke Sagara a street fighter who was the survivor of the slaughtered Sekihoutai he lost not only his friends but the only father figure he ever really had Captain Sozo Sagara.

At first an enemy of Kenshin due to the anger he still possessed at the Meiji Government but after their fight Kenshin reasons with him and he becomes Kenshin's loyal friend. This is a great anime! Its a good combo of a story and action for all anime-lovers of any sex or age. Meet Kenshin, our red-haired traveller from Edo whose physical features make him look younger than his age which is 29 who carries with him two distinct marks: one, his X-shaped scar on his left cheek, and two, his reversed-blade sword.

The series tells the journey of Kenshin along with his friends Kaoru, Yahiko, Sanosuke, and Megumi in his quest for a reformed life. Haunted by his past, he sought the ways of a new beginning.

Rectifying the mistakes he committed during the time he was still known as the highly-feared Battousai during the Tokugawa era, he vowed to use his reversed-blade sword to defend the oppressed. In his desire to fulfil his promise of making up for the lives he ended, his new life wasn't easy. Along the way he meets new people, new friends, new enemies. Personally, the highlight of the series for me was the Makoto Shishio saga. Its a good sequence of episodes to build a vengeful opponent, with his team of henchmen and then proceeding to be the battle that might cost him his life and his promise.

The series involves multi-dimensional characters and unsubtle themes. Story, humor, and action has been well-balanced in this series that's why it's not boring yet substantial. Friendship, love, compassion, betrayal, morality, revenge, reformation, politics, name it.

They're all on Rorouni Kenshin. I tell you it truly is the most moving soundtrack ever, gives Hans Zimmer a run for his money. It would win an Oscar. The only problem with it is, that it was used a bit too much. When you use music to much it loses it's power for other sequences.

Composers have to be-careful with that. But it really was good. If there's a soundtrack out there, I'll be getting it.

And it was an absolute wonderful and powerful story. So beautifully told, too. Two lovers, who are so dedicated to each other, and how war affects them. I cant ask for a better story. Another thing I really liked was, even though it was action, it had a lot of drama in it, and mind. I'm may be a guy, but I'm a softy for the sappy stuff.

Especially with Romance. That's what I always love about Anime, there is some kind of Drama. And they mean it. And it had the most powerful ending ever. Simple, pure, and heart wrenching. Two Lovers clearly week likely on there death bed, walk down a beaten path to each other, and our long time hero, dies right in her armes. So powerful, it puts you to tears. Nice use of music, visuals, cast, and theme.

Great use of thematic elements, to give it the emotional punch. Terrfic Voice Acting from the English cast. And a really sad ending too. If you are a Kenshin Fan, and you haven't's seen this, you should!!!! I strongly recommend it! As I haven't seen the other OAV's, you might want to check those out too.

Sander Pilon 28 April Kenshin lasted a long time: OVAs, Movies and more then three years of television - but all good things must come to an end. Will Kaoru get Kenshin? What will happen to Yahiko and Sanouske? This 2-part Kenshin OVA answers those questions and ends the series in a worthy way. You could see it as a summary of the TV series plus a final episode. Fans will definitely not want to miss this, if only to close the magnificent book of Kenshin.

Fangor 1 October Truly Beautifull. I havent seen the series, but has seen the first OVA and Requiem for the res So much of this film was pretty messy as sequenses from this long series swirl by one after another without much explanation. But I read up on some Fan sites and the events, history and characters became much clearer, and I could appretiate the soul of the film without haveing seen the series.

And I have to say that a film can move me deeply but I rarely cry, at all But through the end of the second part I just wept. It was so sad and so beautifull The categories I have judged separatly, and it still ended up as an all 10 nearly , but the most exellent parts of this anime are the characters and the great story.

Maybe I will watch the series one day, but for me the serious, mature Kenshin that is portrayed in the 2 OVAS will allways be the one who stays in my heart and soul. Do see The first OVA or the series before you see this film as it is not stand alone in any way.

Average 9. What happens when a positive story with humor and an optimistic message is retold as a depressing melodrama riddled with pessimism, disease and negativity? A masterpiece? No, of course not. The result is something so absurdly different from the original that there's simply no reason to acknowledge any connection between the two.

Just think of Seisohen as something else. A different story with different characters. We know that Kenshin wants to redeem himself for the blood he spilled during the revolution, but who knows why, in Seisohen he decides to go to China to kill even more people. The impression is given that Kenshin's lust for blood is so strong that he goes sneaking out at night killing people The whole story behind the Reverse blade sword is lost.

The motive of redemption through helping people is lost. If you've seen the original series, watching Seisohen will probably give you the feeling that all the main characters are on drugs, terminally ill or suicidal. You might ask: "What the hell happened to everyone? Something as absurd as a melodrama based on "South Park" or a comedy based on "Schindler's list".

Just imagine. That's it. Only watch Seisohen if you haven't seen the original, otherwise you'll be sorry. An objective 2 stars out of 10 because the plagiarism and melodramatism negate anything achieved by the animation.
